This IDC study represents a vendor assessment of the learning capabilities offered as part of an integrated talent management solution through the IDC MarketScape model. This research is a quantitative and qualitative assessment of the characteristics that explain a vendor's success in the marketplace and help anticipate its ascendancy.
The evaluation is based on a comprehensive and rigorous framework that assesses vendors relative to the criteria and one another and highlights the factors expected to be the most influential to success in the market, both short and long term. Key findings include:
-There are more IDC MarketScape Leaders in learning management than in other segments of integrated talent management. This is due in large part to the maturity and longevity of the market for standalone learning management.
-Reviewing the reasons for changing learning vendor solutions in the past 12 months, we see big differences by company size. Midsize and larger companies were more concerned with features, while smaller companies switched primarily because of cost.
-As evidenced by the clustering of vendors in the leader and major player segments, differentiation is more difficult to qualify than ever before. All of the vendors covered here have solutions that appeal to buyers. Future differentiation is coming in how well learning systems support collaboration and new models for social learning.
